On A Roll! LAD Weekly Sketch #155-I Rock!

Hey, surprise, surprise! I actually got this week's sketch challenge for Lizzie Anne Designs completed! Joslyn challenged us to created a round card. You can see her sketch HERE. I went a little wild and bright. Just bought this jumbo pack of paper, with all these unique prints and shades. The new "Tweens & Teens" set seemed perfect with this fun paper. I stamped the "personal music listening device" (iPod/MP3, etc.) and embossed it in black on the bright orange circle. I paper pieced the "screen", matted the circle with bright pink, and added the sentiment strip also stamped and embossed in black. The funky colored brads were my son's addition to the card. The inside has one of the other sentiments from the same set, "Have An Awesome Birthday". To view a variety of the team's versions of this sketch, check out the Lizzie Anne Designs Facebook page. Play along and create your own round card to post as well. We love to be inspired by you as well!

Better Late Than Never? Lizzie Anne Designs Sketch #154

Somehow last week just got away from me, and this week promises to do the same. Taylor came up with this great sketch for last Monday, which included the "catch" of creating your borders with elements from the Lizzie Anne Designs sets. It's so easy to do, and yet why do we always seem to immediately reach for the stickers or the border punches? This is a far more creative way to add a border. For my card I decided to just stick with pink. I love this Dotted Swiss cardstock from Bazzill, so that was my color inspiration. Fortunately, Rouge ColorBox Chalk Ink works perfectly with this. My upper border was created with overlapping and cockeyed squares from the
"Timeless Textures" Sixlets Set released in January. I added the curly Q border and the lace border from the same set. Then I stamped the rose from the "Lucky in Love" Mix set across the Dotted Swiss cardstock panel, and stamped off once before stamping on the sentiment panel. I used one of these amazing new "Perfect Phrases", "Friends Forever". After adding my little embellies and the ribbon, I realized that simply by accident I had created a great card for the breast cancer fighter/survivor. Be sure to visit the Lizzie Anne Designs FB page to upload your own version of this fun sketch! Now...I'm going to try to actually get this week's sketch done THIS week!

Ceramic Coaster Creations

Just for the fun of it I decided to use some of Stampendous' latest images to create some new coasters for the tables in my living room. I had purchase these ceramic tiles at the local big box home improvement store for 70 cents a piece. I cleaned them with some rubbing alcohol. Spritzed them with Memories Mists Teal, used a heat tool to set the ink as much as possible, then wiped away the excess...leaving a nice patina behind. Then I stamped the various images using Black StazOn ink, heat set that, smudged a little black ink around the edges and heat set again. To protect them, a gave them a light spray of Krylon Matte Finish sealer. I applied small felt pads (also from the home improvement store) to the bottom to prevent scratching the surface of my table. I love the end result! Created by me (with the help of
great images from Stampendous) and all for less than $5.00 for a set of four! I also created a set of these using Dreamweaver Stencils, so be sure to check back to view those!

A Crafting Journey!

Today was my opportunity to post to the Facebook Page for Lizzie Anne Designs, so be sure to visit the FB page for more inspiration and the latest info on all things Lizzie Anne! This card features images from the November Mix, "Key to Happiness". I love this sentiment. Really makes you think, which occasionally is a good thing! The sentiment was stamped on the print panel at the bottom of the card. The top background was created with the Dreamweaver "Flourishes" stencil on Coredinations cardstock embossed with the Big Shot, and the top surface sanded lightly. The focal point, the ship, was stamped and embossed on a piece of sea glass. I was really happy with the effect of this. I picked up a bag of sea glass on clearance somewhere and was dying to play with it. It does add a little more weight to the card, which means a seriously strong dimensional adhesive, and if you were to mail it, you should probably put it in a bubble envelope. an additional tip for embossing on glass: Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol, rub with talcum or a anti-static medium to prevent embossing powder from sticking in the wrong areas, and it will take quite a while before the powder melts, but afterwards...that glass will be HOT for quite a few minutes!

Faith and Begorrah! It's Dream Schemes Thursday Again!

This week's Dream Schemes is free choice again. My choice was to create a St. Patrick's day card. Those of you visiting my blog from Ireland are probably laughing right now at the "Yanks" fixation on this holiday. We just like to party for just about any occasion. Since I didn't happen to have a shamrock, I decided to go with the "Heart Knot". I just received a packet of Black Leaf from Dreamweaver recently and wanted to play with it. I forgot how fragile this stuff is, and whatever you do...do not have a fan on around it! It will end up everywhere! I chose to use both the negative and the positive of the stencil. First I cut a square of emerald green cardstock. I applied
Palette Glue Pad using a dauber over the stencil. I placed the stencil on the platen of my Big Shot, layered on the green square (which I spritzed the back of with rubbing alcohol), the rubber mat, and the last platen, and ran the whole thing through the embossing machine. This created the embossed image with the glue surrounding it. I then applied a small bit of heat to the adhesive, placed the leafing on top, rubbed a bit, and used a soft brush to removed the excess (save it for later!). After cleaning the glue off of the stencil, I taped it down on the argyle paper. Then I daubed the glue through the stencil, heated it, and applied the leafing to the positive stencil image. The background of the card was embossed with the Diamonds stencil with the added bling of Dot Sparklers. I just happened to have ribbon with shamrocks (had to get that in somewhere!), so added the bow for fun, and to enforce the Irish notion that we "Yanks" are a bit nuts. Why do I suddenly have a craving for corned beef & cabbage, a pint of Guinness, with "Danny Boy" playing in the background? That gotcha, didn't it? LOL. You know you are groaning. All my "Yank" friends are saying, "What? Sounds good to me!" Now it's your opportunity to visit the rest of the team to see what they have been up to this for their free choice, and play along!

Is It Spring Yet?

Quickie post today featuring new images from Stampendous. This card was created for the January '11 catalog introduced at CHA. I used the Perfectly Clear "Agapanthus Thank You", stamped with Brilliance inks and embossed with Crystal Embossing Powder as seen at left. A sprinkling of orange Dot Sparklers was added for bling. My new favorite embellishment, pompom fringe was adhered along the edge of the cute border paper. Another bright, happy card ready for spring!

Lizzie Anne Designs New March Singles Releases!

It's new release day at Lizzie Anne Designs, and today features two Simply Singles stamps..."Hope", from a quote by Emily Dickenson, and "Ageless", a super fun poke at birthdays! My first card is a little odd for me. A mix of paper backgrounds that ordinarily I wouldn't put together, but I liked it. The border across the center of the card has the medallion from the "Bonjour" set stamped across it. The feature Single is stamped on a Nestie label and matted with another to coordinate with the background papers. Attached with a jute twine bow and the additions of a feather (for obvious reasons) and the flower (just 'cuz), proves once again, that the sentiment can indeed be the focal point of the card...even when the background is busy.

For this card, I went with happier colors in my favorite combo of blue and green. I inked last month's Single, "Number block" with blue and green inks and stamped repeatedly over a Nestie cut scalloped circle. I stamped the Number Block again on the small white panel before stamping this month's new Single, "Ageless". The background is a fun argyle print that I had in my stash, as well as the flowered ribbon which is attached to the sentiment panel with a teeny tiny brad.
