Pretty in Paste: Day Five

 

As I've pasted for the holidays all week long, I thought I'd share a favorite of mine for summer. Following the same pasting techniques that have been featured all week, with a couple of changes...

Three stencils were used for this...the Sand Castle, the Scallop, and the Small Scales background. Each was taped to its respective panel with removable tape. Each used a dab of Pearlescent Embossing Paste on the edge of the Paste Spreader, but then...a bit of bright pink ink was swiped at the edge of the spreader using the ink pad, or a bit of reinker. So, as you spreader the paste over the stencil design, you get striations in the paste. The first pass made was over the sand castle where you see more definitive lines. The next was over the scallop design. And finally, the last was over the scales background. All three were set aside to dry. Stencils and spreader were cleaned immediately with clean water and a small nailbrush.

Once dry, the card was assembled, adding a few embellishments and a printed sentiment.

Pretty in Paste: Day Four...Dreamweaver Thursday

Have you seen enough embossing paste yet? Of course not! Dreamweaver's Embossing Pastes are so versatile and high quality, that everything you create with them becomes a work of art.

My card today features the same step-by-step process as I demonstrated in my tutorial on Monday, only using different stencils.

The Dreamweaver Snowflakes background stencil was paste-embossed in Pearlescent paste on a slate blue card, sprinkled with the Stampendous Ice Blue Specialty Enamel, and heated until bubbly and set.

I used the Oval Ornaments Nesting Dies to create one ornament, which I paste-embossed the Southwest Snowflake design in Silver paste, sprinkled this with Silver Embossing Powder, and heated until bubbly and set.

Just a few rhinestone stickers, and a swirl of silver tinsel cord finished off this icy blue textural greeting card.

Pretty in Paste: Day Three

Today's Pretty in Paste card features one of the Dreamweaver all-in-one designs...Season of Joy. The process is simple and effective:

1. Place stencil on panel of cardstock, and tape on all four sides with removable tape.

2. Place a large dab of Pearlescent Embossing Paste on edge of Paste Spreader using palette knife.

3. Place edge of spreader with paste at top of design. Hold spreader with your fingers splayed out over the curved handle, and pull the paste over the stencil in one smooth pass. If there are any gaps, dab a bit of paste in them with the tip of palette knife, and then use spreader to pass over surface once more.

4. Place excess paste back in jar. Wipe around the lip of jar with clean paper towel or rag, and seal.

5. Carefully remove tape from three sides, using the fourth as a hinge to lift the stencil up and off.

6. Immediately place stencil and tools in water to be cleaned when done.

7. Sprinkle wet paste with Stampendous Ice Blue Embossing Enamel, and heat until bubbly and set. Sprinkle a bit of Shabby White Embossing Enamel, and heat from underneath for a bit of "snow".

8. Mat the panel and adhere to card.

Pretty in Paste: Day Two

I still love the look of this crackle-pasted stocking card for the holidays! Here's how it was made:

1) Tape down the Stocking stencil on black cardstock, and paste it with Matte Black Embossing Paste. Set aside to dry.
2) Meanwhile, fold Bazzill Dotted Swiss red cardstock to create card. Layer a black and light blue panel of cardstock together, and adhere to the card.
3) Paste over the top of dried black paste with Crackle Embossing Paste. Let dry.
4) Meanwhile, ink-stencil in black the Happy Holidays stencil on a scrap of light blue, and round corners.
5) When surface is dry and crackled, tape the stencil back over the top, and using the Tsukineko Splendor inkpad as your palette, along with medium and large stencil brushes, ink color over the background, the cuff, and the heel and toes areas. Heat set ink a bit.
6) Continue to ink your design elements (Antler Snowflake and Christmas Borders), and heat set these as well.
7) Use the large Stocking Die to cut out your stocking, and adhere it to the black panel on your card, except at the top. Insert sentiment into the top of stocking.
8) Embellish with May Arts polka dot ribbon, velvet ric rac, and a sparkle pompom (trim a bit off of the back to help adhere to the flat surface.

Pretty in Paste: Day One

Welcome to a week of playing with paste! Embossing Paste to be exact. Since Stampendous purchased Dreamweaver Stencils at the beginning of the year, we've been trying our best to educate crafters and artists regarding one of the best products on the market.

Supplies: Dreamweaver Pearlescent Paste, Shell Wreath, Stampendous Frantagé Ice Blue and Rose Gold Embossing Enamels, palette knife, Paste Spreader, removable tape, cardstock

My post today features one of the most fun ways to use embossing paste, and avoid the old "waiting for paint (paste, in this case) to dry" conundrum. The gorgeous Dreamweaver Shell Wreath lends itself quite well to this technique, and is a perfect design for a beachy Christmas theme, and for a wonderfully elegant beach-themed wedding as well. Here are the steps:

1. Tape stencil around all four sides to square panel of cardstock using removable tape.

2. Place large dab of embossing paste on edge of Paste Spreader. Lay edge of spreader at 90 angle at top of design, with your fingers spread over the curved middle, or handle.

3. Angle slightly, and spread across design with light pressure.

4. If there are any gaps that are missing paste, use the tip of your palette knife to add a small amount of paste in those areas before passing the spreader over the stencil one more time, lifting up and out at the end with all excess paste on spreader.

5. Replace paste into jar, wipe lip of jar, and seal.
6. Carefully remove tape from three sides, leaving one as a "hinge". Now you can lift the stencil up and off in one motion, and place in water to soak until time to clean.

7. Sprinkle embossing enamels over wet paste surface, and pour off excess.

8. Apply heat tool 3-4 inches from surface, heating until bubbly, textured, and shimmer. Set aside for just a few minutes to cool and completely harden.

This is a wonderful technique to use with so many of our Dreamweaver stencil designs. Play with it a bit, and let me know your thoughts on this fun use of embossing paste and embossing enamels. Then head over to the team's posts for more cool ideas!

Dreamweaver Thursday: Poinsettia Perfection

We are playing with poinsettias all this week, and I saved my favorite for today. I love this delicate Tall Poinsettia stencil from Dreamweaver. Use with Stampendous Micro Glitter in red and pink and green, with the crystal background, the effect is stunning. To offset it, I added a panel of the Dreamweaver Holiday Borders Embossing Folder on pink cardstock, brushed with Pearlescent Orchid Brilliance ink. The May Arts' ribbon is the finishing touch, along with a few Mark Richard's crystals.

Woodware: Bright and Sunshiny!

How can you NOT think of bright, sunshiny, summer days when you see this card? The Woodware team are showing our "sunny side of life" this week. My card features the Dreamweaver Hexagons background debossed into yellow and lavender cardstock. Fun ribbon borders and papers on the base card, and a paper-pieced Shasta Daisy Dreamweaver Stencil (and yes, I did fussy cat the entire design!), using simple polka dot papers, with matching punched hexagons on the side. An epoxy sentiment finished this off.

Pretty Poinsettias Week with a Vintage Twist

This week the Stampendous team are featuring Poinsettias, providing you with another opportunity to start planning your holiday cards for this year!

My card features the Dreamweaver Large Poinsettia stencil, done in a modified version of the Double Glitter technique...instead of using all glitter, I've used gorgeous Copper Micro Glitter for the background, and Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel for the poinsettia. Going along with the vintage vibe, the base card is a tan Core'dinations cardstock, machine-embossed with the Dreamweaver Damask background stencil, and sanded to reveal the design. The sentiment was also embossed in the Shabby White. Small dots of glue, sprinkled with Stamnpendous Mahogany glitter were added to the center, and the pin holding the May Arts ribbon bow, was also covered with the same glitter.

Christmas with Chameleon: Finale

 Today is our final day of the Chameleon/Stampendous week, but I can guarantee it won't be the last time we use these innovative pens! With the toner built right into the pen, you can create shading almost instantaneously, without having to haul around hundreds of markers. Perfect for on-the-go crafting! The Chameleon website has several videos demonstrating these pens HERE.

Here's what I've created for today's post:

How simple and effective is this holiday card? And not your everyday holiday colors, either. The new Stampendous Cling Candy Canes have been stamped on our Mixed Media White cardstock in Tuxedo Black Memento, and then colored and shaded with the Chameleon® markers. For extra highlights, I used a glue pen to apply a sprinkle of Crystal Micro Glitter over these sweet treats. A matting of coordinating Bazzill® cardstock colors, along with a luscious May Arts® silk ribbon bow, and this yummy greeting is done! On to the next!

Woodware: Sketch 44 Play Along!

Let's get sketchy! We're up to #44 in sketches for the Woodware challenge. Come play along with us, and submit your own creations following the info on the Woodware blog.

My card features the Stampendous Perfectly Clear Butterflies set, stamped in teal ink on aqua cardstock. The three banner strips are portions from the CardWorks® paper pad "Time Flies", one of my favorites. I inked their edges with lavender ink to make them pop off of each other. The sentiment is from the Perfectly Clear Daisy Thanks set, stamped in black on layered ovals die cut from the Dreamweaver Nested Ovals.

Dreamweaver Thursday: Christmas with Chameleon

All of this week, the Stampendous/Dreamweaver team have been showing off a fabulous new marker system...Chameleon Pens. These are so unique, and have a bit of a learning curve, especially when you're used to working with the various alcohol marker systems on the market. Once mastered, these are a great option, as you'll see when visiting the team's posts this week. Just an aside...Chameleon people...thank you so much for providing our team with complete sets of these markers, as well as the fabulous video tutorials found HERE.

Today's post features the House Mouse Designs® Mistletoe Bunnies, stamped on a panel of our Mixed Media cardstock, and colored and shaded with the Chameleon Markers. The colored panel was then covered with VersaMark ink, and coated with Stampendous Crystal Embossing Powder for a clear sparkle. Then the same panel was die cut with the Dreamweaver Oval Ornament die, matted in red, and adhered to the base card over a border of Christmassy ribbon.

As for the base card, the Dreamweaver Heart Ornaments stencil was paste-embossed in Translucent Paste, and covered with Stampendous Micro Crystal Glitter, and set aside to dry.

Stampendous and Chameleon...a Colorful Christmas Combination

My card today features the new House Mouse Designs® Christmas Characters, stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento, and colored and shaded with my Chameleon markers. The mice are a perfect way to begin using these markers, as they are smaller images to work with, and easier to blend using their toner marker. These work well on the Stampendous Mixed Media cardstock as well. I embellished the panel by adding drops of glue and Stampendous Micro Red Glitter to the berries, and brushing glue over the leaves, and sprinkling them with Micro Crystal Glitter.

I created a border/accent strip using the Dreamweaver Spiral Dots stencil in the double glitter technique, with both the red and glitters used above, on the Dreamweaver Double-sided Mounting Paper. The final touch, was a panel of that same sticky paper, covered in Stampendous Micro Green Glitter, and run through my Big Shot Pro with the Dreamweaver Holly Swirls die. More glue and glitter for the berries, and the die cut was popped up off of the card with bits of foam tape. (By the way, the negative portion of that die cut panel is being saved for another occasion.)

Woodware: Deb's Challenge...Nature Inspired

Woodware teammate, Deb Frost, has challenged us to be inspired by nature for this week. Love this challenge! The only difficulty is deciding which direction to go with it!

Obviously, I chose the sea for my inspiration. I mixed a bit of Dreamweaver Regular Embossing paste in two small batches...one with a bit of an aqua tint, and one with a terracotta tint, created by mixing in a bit of acrylic paints to the paste to get the shades that I desired.

I used the aqua paste to emboss the Dreamweaver Mosaic Swirls stencil on kraft cardstock, and when I matted in in black, and adhered it to a kraft card.

I dabbed a fairly thick portion of the terracotta paste on a scrap of cardstock, and let it dry. Once dry, the paste has a bit of give to it. This allowed me to place the Dreamweaver Nautilus stencil over the top, and carve away some of the paste using the Woodware Multi-crafting Tool set. The end result looks a bit like a fossil, which being the good geologists' daughter that I am, made me quite happy. I cut around the piece and adhered it to the card as well.

Finally, I ink-stenciled the Dreamweaver Seahorse on a piece of sea glass, and embossed it with Stampendous Sand Embossing Powder, and adhered that as well as a sentiment tag and ribbon to finish off my bit of nature.
