Dreamweaver Vintage Christmas Card

I'm so excited! This week we have our very first Dreamweaver Stencil's Dream Team blog hop! Starting on September 30th and going through October 2nd, each day a few of our team will be featuring their amazing talents using amazing stencils and products from Dreamweaver Stencils. Not only will you have the opportunity to learn some fun new tips & techniques, but by following the directions posted on the Dreamweaver Stencils "Dream It Up!" blog, you have the chance to win your favorite stencils and some additional goodies! My particular posting day is scheduled for October 2nd, so come hopping by on that day, but don't forget the previous two days with the other gals. We are spreading the love out over three days so that you have the time to thoroughly check out what we've been up to.
For this posting, I'm featuring two gorgeous new stencil designs, "Christmas Script" and "Holly Flourish". I paste embossed the Christmas Script using Metallic Gold Embossing Paste on a panel of red cardstock. I ink-stenciled the Holly Flourish on a white panel and lined it up with the red panel for the over-lap. Sponging ink around the edges adds to the vintage appeal of this card. Highlighting the gold writing, I added a thin gold punched border to the side. Tiny red Dot Sparklers were added for bling, and a couple of ribbon ties finish it off. Hope this card inspires you in your own holiday card-making!

One Flaming Frosty Sleigh!

I'm so excited! This week we have our very first Dreamweaver Stencil's Dream Team blog hop! Starting on September 30th and going through October 2nd, each day a few of our team will be featuring their amazing talents using amazing stencils and products from Dreamweaver Stencils. We are spreading the love out over three days so that you have the time to thoroughly check out what we've been up to.
This posting of mine showcases one of the new stencils for the holidays, "Large Sleigh", which happens to have the sentiment as part of the design. This was paste-embossed on blue cardstock and when dry, the stencil was placed on again. I used removable tape to mask off the areas that I didn't want air-brushed. I used a piece of transparency and cut out a flame stencil. Using this and my Copic Airbrushing System, I did a flame job on Santa's sleigh. This technique is super easy, and could be done with actual flame colors as well. A sprinkling of snowflake sequins was the perfect embellishment. Pretty frosty, wouldn't you say?

STMC25-Polar Blue Christmas

Yippee! It's Stampendous Saturday Sketch challenge time again! This week our sweet-and-oh-so-talented Rachel designed the challenge that you see at the left. You have to go visit her blog and see her version...I'll give you a hint...it looks yummy! Play along with us and post your rendition to one of the online sites and link back to the Stampendous blog, and you could win one of two great prizes this week! Meanwhile, the deets on my example:
I stamped the Cling Snowflakes background using Frost White ColorBox on the blue card. Then I layered a panel of this beautiful K & Co. paper on white for pop. Two snowy hills were created using my favorite EK Border punch. Now the real fun begins! I stamped this darling polar bear with packages on smooth white cardstock and colored with my Copics (see colors at left). After I cut him out, I used a craft knife to cut around his
paws so they could be popped up a bit. I also cut into the fringe of the scarf and bent the ends to mimic flapping in the breeze. I tucked his little feet into the snowy hills on the card and embellished with a little glitter (of course!) and a fuzzy pompom on his hat. The sentiment was stamped, and a touch of color added, on a Nestie label and popped up with foam adhesive over the top of this cute plaid ribbon. I'm really happy with the way this turned out and thinking this may be one of my designs I send out to family and friends. Doesn't that make you want to adopt me? ;)

Rockin'...Chickadees?

"They rock in the treetop all day long. Rockin' and a boppin' and a singin' their song..."! Now that I've planted that in your head for the rest of the day (heehee) I can share with you one of Stampendous' latest designs, "Chickadee" (yeah, I know, it should be a robin), and this great sentiment that actually comes in a Cling set with another image, but I thought it would be appropriate for this card as well. I stamped the Chickadee twice...once on the aqua cardstock and once on the polka dot print of aqua and red. The red ones were cut out and adhered to the aqua panel with double-sided foam tape for dimension, and their little wings were bent slightly as well (honest, it didn't hurt them a bit!). I stamped and embossed the sentiment in white on a section of a Nestie circle with a scalloped border. Another scalloped border was added to the polka dot panel at the bottom. A little bling is always a good thing, so a section of Scrollwork Border in red mirror finish and some red Dot Sparklers were the finishing touch. Happy holiday stamping!

Sunset Spook Card

Here's another spooky post featuring Class A' Peel stickers from Stampendous, and some of their fabulous Pearl Glitter. A huge variety of their glitters, flocks, and embossing powders are now available in kits. These are an awesome way to sample the various colors, and they've already chosen the color scheme for you! The colors that I used on this card come from the "Moroccan Sun" Combo Kit. There is also a great mixed kit designed for Halloween called "Tricks and Treats". For this card, I applied Peel N' Stick to a cardstock panel, and after removing the top carrier sheet, I carefully placed the tree and bat stickers on the sticky surface. I poured the glitter in bands of color onto the remaining sticky surface. It helps to rub the glitter into the Peel N' Stick for better coverage. The card was created using plain black cardstock with an orange panel and an additional panel of EK Nostalgiques paper. I love this webby ribbon from Creative Impressions as it adds to the spooky feel.

Mojo157-NAUT(ilus) Your Average Birthday Card

Ssssh...don't tell, but this is my hubby's birthday card for next week. Amazingly, I actually got it done early! Somehow, I manage to get designs done for deadlines, but my own family somehow fall by the wayside. Kind of like the shoemaker's children who have no shoes. Now that I have a blog up and running, I really have less excuse for missing these big days. Anyway, my hubby loves nautilus shells and fortunately Dreamweaver Stencils just happen to have the most gorgeous shell stencils out there. I ran this shimmery copper cardstock through my Big Shot with the stencil, and ran the background stencil through again with the Bazzill Java cardstock. Spritzing a little rubbing alcohol on both sides before running through the machine helps to soften the paper fibers just enough to get a deep emboss. For this card I followed the Mojo Monday week 157 sketch ('cuz, hey, I might as well kill two birds with one stone...or card), which included a panel along the side using my cute herringbone patterned paper. Some type of circular item was supposed to be placed along the right side. I chose to use one of Tim Holtz' Tag Fragments, since it is clear and I didn't want to lose any of the detail of that beautiful embossed shell. I've had these rub-ons forever, and since I'm usually stamping or stenciling, I've never used them. This seemed to be the ideal opportunity, and the curve in the type fit perfectly. I chose antiqued copper brads as the three elements under the main focal point. I think he'll like this card. He'll love the stencil and the masculine feel accented by the hemp twine, plus the simple, clean design. Now I just need to work on an anniversary card for him as that comes up two days after his b-day. Got any suggestions?

Going Batty!

Quickie post. Been sick all day with some indefinable something, so planning on putting this card up and heading to bed reeeeeeally early. Super easy Halloween card created with Class A' Peel stickers from Stampendous. I used one bat as a stencil, and sponged white ink over it randomly on the black panel for the spooky, foggy sky full of bats that would totally freak you out in real life, but is great for Halloween. The panel was adhered to an orange card (duh). The moon was cut out with a Nestie and smudged with ink around the edges before adhering. The message border was added at the bottom. Another small bat was added to the moon, and the focal point is the large bat that was applied to acetate (transparency) and cut out. I used double-sided foam adhesive to pop it up and glued on the googly eyes for fun.

Let's Play House! Holiday Card

Sometimes Pammy likes to play house! This was one of those times. I had this cute paper from American Crafts that I had bought at Tall Mouse in Yorba Linda (like that plug?), and for some strange reason it was whispering to me, "If you build it they will come"! I have no idea who "they" are...kinda doubt they are baseball players. More likely HGTV elves! Lol. Anyway, I decided to create a house card, complete with shingles, snowy borders, and gingerbready (is that a word?) details. Thank the creative gods for Nesties, as they were used for all the windows and doors! The final touch was a tag at the top featuring the perfect sentiment from Stampendous! I had so much fun with this, just may need to make a whole village of holiday card houses. Time consuming, but soooo cute! Wanna come play house with me?

Time for a Frosty One! Dreamweaver Sleigh Ride Card

Bouncing back to Christmas again with this teaser before Dreamweaver Stencils' fabulous blog hop coming up September 30-October 2nd. Be sure to hop along with all of us over those three days, as we will be showing off how much fun we have been having featuring stenciling in our paper-crafting. Today I'm featuring a brand new stencil, "Large Sleigh". For this card, I applied Versamark with the stencil and embossed it in silver on a blue card. White ink was sponged through the snowflake stencil randomly over the card, and around the edges as well.  Then blue ink was sponged around the inside edges of the sleigh stencil on polka dot paper. Using a palette knife, I applied white embossing paste in snowy clumps to the polka dot sled and the runners on the blue card. Then I applied the paste smoothly to the sentiment portion of the sleigh stencil on the blue card, sprinkled everything liberally with ultra-fine glitter (including my cat and myself!), and set all aside to dry. I cut out the polka dot sleigh and adhered it slightly off-set on the card using double-sided foam adhesive. A fun border of white at the bottom and a smattering of blue pearl snowflake Class A' Peel stickers finish it off. You have to admit, the end result is SNOW much fun!

STMC24-Mono Hang Out Halloween Card

Here I go playing "monkey-in-the-middle" again! Keep bouncing back and forth between Christmas and Halloween. Seriously though, for papercrafters THIS is the best time of the year! For this weeks' Stampendous Saturday Sketch Challenge, Jennifer Dove challenged us to create a card in a monochromatic color scheme. You HAVE to go check her card out! It is amazing. Jenn does Copic classes and her technique makes me soooooo envious. Her version has the look of a black and white photo, all shades of gray. I decided to do mine in shades of purple just because I hadn't had the opportunity to play with this great Stampendous Cling set. I stamped the spider image on the print paper, the lighter Coredinations, and also on white cardstock. I used my Copic markers to color in the hat and candy corn, cut them out and popped them up on the image. Of course, I had to highlight with a little of Stampendous' Violet Pearl glitter! I used Dot Sparklers for the eyes which I colored with a purple Sharpie. I used Coredinations cardstock for the majority of this card because it distresses so nicely. I've found it's easier to distress by dampening the paper slightly with some rubbing alcohol before sanding it or using whatever tool you have for the process. I usually use a sanding block and/or pumice stone. I used one of my new Nesties for the sentiment and some cute paper I bought recently that has the sparkle built in already for the strip across the card. Please check out all the design team gals amazing work and come play along with us! For rules, check out the Stampendous Impressions blogsite.

Mojo154-Argyle Snowman Card

Haven't been able to play with the Mojo Monday challenges for a while, so since I had a bit of time last night, I thought I could "quickly" create something for their sketch this week. Took me a couple of hours, but I was having so much fun that I didn't want to stop. This challenge gives the opportunity to use up some scraps that you have laying around. I love this argyle paper...only wish that I had bought more of it. The image is part of a Perfectly Clear set from Stampendous. I stamped the snow-guy on vellum and used Copics to color from behind, leaving just a hint of color and shading. I paper pieced his hat and scarf and added an oversize pompom to his hat. The layers in the background were created using more of the argyle paper, some MME paper I've had forever, and some vellum...all of which I attacked with one of my Fiskar border punches. Finally I dug through my huge tin of buttons to create an extra border.

Wreath & Holly Card

Here's another quickie post. This time a holiday card created for the Stampendous Holiday '09 catalog. Seems strange to be posting Halloween on one day and Christmas on the next, but this time of year is a wild card-making season! This card features Stampendous' oldie but goodie, "Merry Topper", stamped on a white panel and watercolored. Dimensional Magic and glitter was added for shine, dimension, and sparkle. The cute polka dot paper picks up on the round ornaments on the wreath, and the buttons on the Class A' Peel velvet stickers pick it up some more! Originally, this stamp was created as a "Pail Topper" for those great clear pails that Stampendous carries in several perfect sizes. They make perfect gift containers, especially for cookies and other treats as they are food safe, unlike most of the others out on the market. Another great idea for using any of the "Pail Topper" stamps from Stampendous, is to stamp them on the plain, round, cork coasters that you can buy everywhere (I bought mine at Ikea). Use an ink like StazOn for maximum durability. Do not emboss on a coaster as it will become a melted mess if you place a hot cup o' Joe or cocoa on it! (I tried that once...not pretty.)

Furry-ocious Candy-Stealing Tiger!

Quickie post today. Here is a card that I made for the Stampendous catalog. Very simple. I stamped this little cutie from the Stampendous Perfectly Clear "Costume Kids" set, once on white cardstock and once on orange. Added color and shading with markers, cut both of them out and layered with double-sided adhesive on this slightly grungy paper. The goofy spider is a Class A' Peel sticker which I have "springing" down by way of a skinny strip of corrugated cardstock. The sentiment speaks for itself!

Foiled Again! Birds With Branches

Only a little over two weeks away until the Dreamweaver Stencil's Dream Team "gets hopping"! That's right! Plans are in the making for our very first blog hop over the weekend of September 30 through October 2nd. Mark it on your calendar because not only will you see some amazing new designs by our extremely creative team, but you will have the opportunity to win some wonderful blog candy in the form of fabulous stencils for your own creations. Get ready to be inspired! Check back for more deets. Meanwhile, I'll try to tide you over with this deceptively simple holiday card. I "foiled" the embossed stencil design and layered it with cardstock and borders to a square red card with cute paper and a cheerful satin bow.
The technique for foiling the design using your embossing machine (I use  a
 Big Shot) goes like this:

1. Place stencil on platten in your machine according to directions for embossing with a stencil.
2. Place foil shiny side down on top of stencil. (Not the kind from the kitchen! The kind you buy at your craft or stamp store that adheres with a tacky adhesive.)
3. Spray front side of cardstock panel with spray adhesive. Spray back side with rubbing alcohol (helps to ensure a deep emboss). Place panel adhesive side down onto foil layer.
4. Cover with embossing mat and 2nd platten and run through machine.
5. Remove from machine and peel off carrier from foiled panel. Tip: For a more broken up look to the foiling, crinkle sheet of foil really well before using.)
See! Really simple and big wow factor. It's easy to do several in a row for multiple cards. Happy stenciling!

Watch Out Carmen! It's Changito Miranda

Watch out Carmen Miranda! Changito is throwing a Halloween party, complete with wild costumes. "Changito Miranda" was stamped on a white circle and watercolored. The modified flap-fold card includes all the party info on the inside (*suggestion at bottom), a wild tiger print was stamped on the side, and the closure is a brad and swing mount. Fun colors of Bazzill cardstock ensure that Changito's party will be THE party of the spook season. Be there or be square!

STMC23-Fall Fields Card

Week 23 of the Stampendous Saturday Sketch Challenges. This week Wendy challenged us with some great fall colors. Be sure to check out her gorgeous creation, as well as the rest of the design team for inspiration. Play along by posting your version to any of the online sites, and post a link on the Stampendous Impressions blog. You have the opportunity of winning one of two fabulous prizes!
My card has a stamped, Copic colored, and torn out Sunflower Scene image from Stampendous. I added some buttons with twine for the fun of it, and a great Class A' Peel sentiment as well. I love the colors of fall, and for California, we've almost been having some fall-like weather. Living in the high desert, we rarely see temperatures below 100 this time of year, but the last few days it's been in the 70's and 80's. Darn near brisk...sort of.

Dreamweaver Sanded Snowflake Card

Yeah, I realize that it is only September, but when it comes to holiday cards, it never hurts to get an early start. I posted some great Christmas card samples in July and August as peeks of new products from Stampendous and Dreamweaver Stencils, so feel free to refresh yourself on those by clicking on the "older posts" button at the bottom of the page. Meanwhile, I plan to start posting at least one holiday card sample per week for the next month before ramping it up. This card was created using one of Dreamweaver Stencil's great snowflake designs. Extremely simple card to reproduce over and over. Just run the panel of Coredinations cardstock through your die cutting/embossing machine (I use a Big Shot) with the stencil, and run a sanding block over the surface to really highlight the detail. Sand a little over the card created from the same cardstock. Kind of leaves a distressed and frosty look. The white panel down the middle was run through the machine with the flakes background stencil (hard to tell in the photo). I recommend spritzing the cardstock with rubbing alcohol before running it through with the stencil to get a deeper embossed image. Adhere the panels to the front of the card. Wrap and tie a ribbon around it. Embellish with a rhinestone and dimensional sentiment and you're done! Has a great wow factor, yet simple to duplicate...or triplicate, etc. Happy holiday stamping!

STMC22-Gimme Vamp

So it's Saturday, and you know what that means. No I don't mean the day you get to sleep in and skip hauling kids everywhere. It's Stampendous Saturday Sketch Challenge day, week 22! So get your butt out of bed and get stamping! Don't forget to post a link of your version to the Stampendous Impressions blogsite and check out the creations of the rest of our spookily amazing team (at right). The sketch this week is shown below. My version uses Stampendous' darling little vampire. Personally, I think he is far more cute than Edward or Jacob, but that's just me. I did a paper piecing technique with the image. Very easy to do, just a little time consuming. Stamp your image on various papers, cut out the segments that you want, and adhere them where you'd like on your main stamped image. In my case, the orange printed paper. I found these two papers that were double-sided and one side has four different prints, so these were perfect for this project. This process is also fantastic for using up all those tiny scraps of great papers that you just can't bring yourself to throw away. You don't need enough of the paper to stamp the entire image, just enough to stamp the portion you need. The circles on the side have super cute Class A' Peel stickers from a set called, appropriately, "Cats and Bats". The tiny "stitches" along the background paper were the centers of a picket fence from the same sticker sheet. I zig zag cut the border at the bottom and curled some of the edges over to expose the cute print on the opposite side. Finally, I added the Class A' Peel border along the bottom. Hope all of you have as much fun with this sketch as I did!

Dreamweaver-Veni Vidi Fishi

Wednesday's post was all about bragging about my latest feature on Scrapbooking.com, at which time I mentioned that I would be posting my designs that were featured with the article. The above is a scrapbook page using Dreamweaver Stencils products. The background was stenciled using ink, going for that "manly" look. I distressed around the edges and used antiqued hardware and twine to add to that effect. The focal point of the page (no, not the picture of my hubby), is a fishing fly that has been paste stenciled and once dry, colored and shaded using chalks.
The card is very similar, same techniques and stencils using the same earthy colors. Both have a very unique look to them, and both were amazingly simple to create. For the cleanest designs, use removable tape to hold your stencil in place while you ink through it, or in the case of the paste stenciling, spreading the paste. Just pretend that you are spreading icing on a cake (no licking off the excess!), smoothly running the offset palette knife across the stencils at an angle. Scrape the excess back into the jar and run the palette knife over the surface to ensure a smooth pasted surface. Carefully remove the stencil and wash immediately, while allowing your pasted surface to dry for about 30 minutes. For more info on stenciling, please visit the Dreamweaver Stencils site and their Dream It Up Blog.

Woo Hoo...Two?

Today being September 1st, the second installment in my feature articles on Scrapbooking.com is available for my friends and followers to, hopefully, be inspired by or at least be amused by. Please check it out by clicking here....or here....or here, or wait...maybe here? Hee hee. Sorry just messing with 'ya! Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to add a 3rd, 4th, and 5th installment. :) Meanwhile, I plan on posting pics of the samples from this article with all the deets over the next few days. Happy papercrafting!
