Dream Schemes Thursday-Sea Inspiration Card

I've been looking forward to this week's Dream Schemes Thursday for about a month now. This time Kim gave us a colorway challenge, using brown, cream, and blue. Love that color combo. As some of you have heard me rant before, my master suite (definitely not as glamorous as it sounds) in my home is done in those colors (with a pop of paprika for fun). These colors remind me of the ocean, so I went with a sea theme for this card. I mixed a "sludge" of Matte White Paste with a bit of cerulean and light green acrylic paints and used this to paste-emboss the Mosaic Swirls background stencil. I strained my brain (doesn't take much!) to think of a way to create a "fossil" with the Nautilus stencil, and I think my idea worked rather well. I mixed another "sludge" of Matte White Paste with a little burnt umber and burnt sienna acrylic paint. I applied a thick layer of it on a piece of kraft cardstock. Since the thicker layers can take a while to dry, I placed it in my toaster oven on the lowest setting for about 15 minutes. It doesn't actually harden as it dries, it's more like a slightly rubbery quality. I placed the Nautilus stencil on top and taped down around the edges. Then I carefully used a craft knife to score around the edges of the openings, and then carve out some of the paste. When I was finished, I sponged a slightly darker ink color over the upper surfaces to emphasize the carved area. This was on the advice of my older son who has been a rock and fossil hound since he was about three. He was impressed, so I think I was successful. I broke out another piece of that sea glass that I bought a couple weeks ago, and stenciled Versamark ink through the Sea Horse stencil and embossed with Stampendous' Golden Sand powder. I thought the sentiment was appropriate for my sea-themed card, especially with the extra pop of color from the ribbon and brad. Now hop on over to the rest of the team for more inspiration, before creating your own version of our Colorway Challenge. Be sure to post to the Mr. Linky on the Dream It Up! blog so we can be inspired by you!

Pam, I have to admit that I never cared for embossing paste until I saw your cards! You make it soooo cool! Maybe its the stencils you choose, the excellent color palette, don't know but LOVE it!!
