Dreamweaver Stencils: Old, New, Borrowed, Blue...and Maybe a Notepad or Two!

At Dreamweaver Stencils, we love to make our monthly challenges something for everyone, and not so strict that no one wants to play along. This month our challenge is, "Old, New, Borrowed, Blue", with the obvious thought being a wedding theme...but not necessarily. Add an old embellishment or picture. Use a new stencil design or technique. Borrow, or CASE (copy and say everything) another designers project, and obviously, blue...is blue. Where will YOUR creative process take you for this month? We'd love to see! And remember, linking your creations with the Inklinkz tool at the end of the team posts, provides you with the opportunity to win the stencil of your choice! Here's what I've created for this week...

This project covers a couple of different aspects of this month's challenge. It could be a wedding favor, and it is also blue. Super easy steps:

1. Cut tagboard squares slightly larger than the notepad that you wish to cover.
2. Cut velveteen paper 1/2" larger than tagboard squares on length and width.
3. Cut two more squares 1/4" smaller in length and width than tagboard squares.
4. Cut two pieces of the velveteen paper 1" X 3", and one 1 1/2" square piece.
5. Paste-emboss Damask stencil design on the small square piece and one of the strips in Silver Embossing Paste. Set aside to dry.
6. Place larger velveteen paper squares nap down on top of Damask stencil. Apply moderately hot iron over the surface until design is embossed into the  nap. Let cool.
7. Fold and score 1/4" on all sides of these squares. Cut off corners to tagboard lines. Wrap, cover, and adhere.
8. Adhere non pasted strip as the binding edge on both sides of the covers. Roll pasted strip around pencil, trim if necessary, and adhere to the front edge of the bottom of cover. (Note: you can use the silver paste as paint and brush on to cover pencil.)
9. Adhere smaller velveteen squares inside of covers, also covering the binding piece and the seam edge of pencil holder.
10. Mat pasted square with silver cardstock, and adhere to top of cover.
11. Insert notepad, holding in place with black elastic cord.

Woodware UK: Child's Play is a Challenge??? Not When You Wobble!

This month Woodware is sponsoring the challenge over on A Little Bit Crafty the theme is Child Play and the challenge is open until the end of June. So pop over there for some inspiration and to join in with the challenge! Here is my take on Child’s Play…

Refresh page to view again.
What child doesn't have a constant wiggle going on, or love a moving toy? This card was created with the Stampendous Cling Lion Baby, stamped in black ink, colored and shaded with markers, but with a little bit extra...an Action Wobble Spring. These are awesome! A plastic spring with self-adhesive. I stamped, colored, and cut out an extra lion head (it didn't hurt a bit, I promise), and adhered the Wobble Spring between the first stamping and the extra head as you can see above. Oh, and I added some Stampendous Fun Flock in Berry Pink for his mane. Fuzzy and wiggly! A great combo for children. The background was a fun patterned paper with the addition of the stamped in Rouge ColorBox Chalk Ink Giggle Wiggle Cling stamp, with one of the "wiggles" highlighted in black. A cute bright button and striped twine finished off this fun card.
Remember to play along with this challenge, after all...it's Child's Play!

Dreamweaver Stencils: MOOOO-ving On with Flora and Fauna

Hay there! It is the final week of the Flora and Fauna challenge for the Dream Team, so I thought I'd take a quick turn at Pun-synlvania for a MOOOO-ving experience. I love black and white with an extra pop of color. I've pasted the Dreamweaver Cow stencil in BOSSY White (I mean Glossy White) on black cardstock, and the Splats stencil in Glossy Black on white. The fun sentiments are from the Stampendous Perfectly Clear Hay There set, and add the extra PUNch that this card needed! I hope you've had fun this month playing along with our Flora and Fauna challenge, and are posting your creations to the Dream It Up! blog, or at the end of the Dream Team posts, using the Inlinkz tool. One random winner receives the stencil of their choice! So...MILK it for all it's worth!

Now let's see what FAUNa the rest of the team has been creating...

Woodware...On the Move!

Our Woodware challenge this week is Moving/New Home, so I pulled out this cutie from the past. Despite the fact that it is obviously a rainy day beyond the door, I think it is still inviting and cozy. The white panel beyond the door was pasted in Matte Black Embossing Paste with the Dreamweaver Birds on Bare Branches stencil. The window and frame on the door were die cut. The small red panel was machine embossed with the letter press technique. The Love Bird Heart stencil was covered in red ink before running it through my embossing machine with a small red panel. The framed window was created by paste-embossing in Transparent Embossing Paste the Rain Stencil, and sprinkling with Stampendous Crystal Glitter. A scrap of ruffled ribbon provides the curtain, and an embossed and distressed brad fastener is the door knob. It would be a great addition to the inside of the card to add the new Woodware We're Moving stamp along with the new address.

Don't forget to check each day on the Woodware blog for more crafty inspiration!

Dreamweaver Stencils Flora, Fauna, Surprises, and Prizes!

The Dream Team is ready to inspire you with some extra fun this week! Not only are we posting with the Flora and Fauna challenge, we are introducing you to our THREE NEWLY RELEASED DESIGNS...our Owl Buddy, the Open Sheep, and the art nouveau-inspired Heron, which you had a sneak peek at two weeks ago on the Dream It Up! blog. Three lucky commenters on the Dream Team's posts will receive one of these designs to be announced on the Dream It Up! blog next week. Tell us in your comment which technique YOU would use with your favorite of these new designs.

Here is what I created this week...

My aim was to post something with each of the new designs, but you'll have to settle for two from me today. My first features the new Open Sheep, which I have filled in with the Swirls stencil using Clearsnap Jasmine White Mixed Media ink. The background was created with the same stencil with black on white, and "clouds" were created by using a portion of the sheep stencil for the fluffy outline. The sentiment was part Stampendous stamp, and part me trying to mimic the font. I ended up having to add some extra curliques to the stamped word so they both would match a bit better.

My second card features the new Heron design...very art-nouveau-esque. I created a background of bright colors by spraying rubbing alcohol over a piece of Fabriano Watercolor paper with a heavy texture, and then adding drops of Dreamweaver Color Solutions Alcohol Inks. The result was bright and vibrant, and the perfect contrast for the glossy black pasted image. One simple thought from the Bird Words stencil was just enough...especially pasted in glossy white, and colored over the top with Cosmos Pink Color Solutions.

Woodware Father's Day Gifts All Tied Up

Once again, Woodware has me hopping. This week, we have been challenged to create a gift for Father's Day. As with Mother's Day, this happy day falls earlier in the year in the UK than in the US, so I was unprepared. However, I have step by step directions to demonstrate that you, too, can be on time for this prestigious occasion. All you need are a cheap cotton tie from Primark (try Wal-Mart in the USA), and the supplies shown below:

Dreamweaver Cathedral Window, Electric Guitar, Guitar Words, Clearsnap Mixed Media Ink, Sakura Micron Pen

Tape down guitar stencil. Tap red ink through stencil using stencil brush until saturated. Remove stencil and apply heat tool to set ink.
Tape down Cathedral Window over tie, and ink stencil with white ink over background area only. Heat set as above.
Place guitar stencil over design again, and trace outline with Micron Pen.

Ink stencil the selected guitar words randomly over tie. Heat set once again.
See??? Wasn't that simple? And you KNOW that Dad will be off to the offices on Monday, proudly displaying his one-of-a-kind, hand-made-with-love tie to all those jealous barristers! No, you say??? Okay, well maybe just around the house watching aging rock gods on the telly.

Need more Father's Day inspiration? Check the Woodware blog daily all this week!

Dreamweaver's Flora and Fauna Challenge Goes Under the Sea

Welcome to the merry month of May! The Dream Team are challenging you this month to a "Flora and Fauna" theme! Considering most of the Dreamweaver designs incorporate both of these in the huge variety of stencils, you should have no problem playing along with our challenge this month! As usual, link your creations at the end of the Dream It Up! blog post, or at the end of our posts where it says, "Add Your Link".

My flora and fauna are going under the sea this week...

I created a beautiful inked background using Memories Mists on glossy cardstock with a bit of water spray for movement. The Open Fish design was traced with Sakura Micron pens in .01 and .05, with "Sten-tangling" added, before covering the fish in Glossy Accents and tiny, clear holeless beads. The tiny beads add to the watery effect. Using portions of the Leafless Tree Die in black cardstock as coral, and some soft ink-stenciling of its matching stencil design, I was able to create dimension as well. One of my favorite parts of this design is that the beads cover a multitude of errors in my "Sten-tangling", so no one needs to know that my lines were less than perfect...unless YOU tell them!
