Thursday Dream Schemes-Cocky With Kitsch!

Kellogg's® Corn Flakes does not have the only rooster in town. Dreamweaver Stencils just introduced this cocky fellow at CHA in January, and he is sooooo much fun to play with. I have to admit, roosters have really never been my thing. I inherited a pair of California pottery roosters from my mother and never knew quite what to do with them. Now I have a kitchen with all kinds of space above my cabinets to display all my antique kitchen gadgets and knick knacks...so that's where they go. They're kind of starting to grow on me...just like this stencil did. A week ago I posted a bright colored card paste-embossed with him. Today's post has a more old-fashioned kitcheny-kitsch to it. This is a version of stenciling with a crosstitch appearance, but far less time-consuming. I placed the stencil down on the cardstock and taped just the top edge with removable tape to act as a hinge. This helps you to continually check your progress as you go. Next I taped down a piece of screening perfectly sized for cardmaking. I used my smaller stencil brushes and tapped the various shades of ink through the screening and stencil. Keep lifting the edge carefully without moving your paper to see how your coloring and shading are coming along, because once you remove it all, you will never place it the same way again! LOL. When the rooster image was as I wanted it, I removed the stencil but left the screening in place to add shading in the background and around the edges for that vintage feel. The final step was stenciling the saying down the side. The panel was layered and wrapped with a bit of ink-rubbed tulle and adhered to the distressed and sanded Coredinations card. A little ink was rubbed over the flowers as well before tying them with twine to the tulle. Now go on and check out what the rest of the team has been up to this week, as well as the Dream It Up! blog site. If you missed the opportunity to do the Virtual Valentine Blog Hop, click HERE. You need to have done your hopping and commenting by 6 pm EST today, in order to possibly win some goodies!

Fabulous job on the Faux Cross Stitching. Thats great that you can do this with just ink. I was thinking that you used paste with this. Can you use paste?

Love the rooster and the faux cross-stitching. I like it better than the Kellogg's® Corn Flakes bird!

Pam...love, love, love this card. I love roosters I don't know why but I do. I love the way this stencil looks with the faux cross stitch and the color is so soft and vintage looking. Great job.

I'm with Wendy in thinking that paste embossing had to come first before inking with the faux cross stitch technique. Love the look without it. Definitely have to give this one a try!

You did a marvelous job on this, I know it's a challenge to keep the screen lined up well, and you certainly did!
